Property Place

Facebook users can now buy, sell or rent properties thanks to a new property portal.

The arrival of Property Place on the social network makes it the first property-based application on Facebook. Although currently in its Beta form, Property Place already boasts around 400,000 properties ready for a full launch later this month.

The premise is a well thought out one in terms of social media marketing, as users are encouraged to like and share properties that they may be interested in with their friends – or indeed, potential flatmates.

“Property Place makes it easier for consumers to share the decision making process with trusted friends and family on one platform,” said Sohail Rashid, the Yorkshire based entrepreneur behind the project.

Rashid is to initially charge fees of £50 per month on a rolling month to month contract for an estate agency firm to upload all of their properties. The site was developed in partnership with Guardian Media Group Property Services (GMGPS).

Mark Goddard, group managing director of GMGPS, adds: “It is our belief that selling agents should treat social media as an emerging market and a new opportunity to challenge the way properties are currently sold and let.”

Jeffries’ Partner Stuart Whiting said:

“We have signed up with Sohail at Property Place. We see this as an amazing opportunity for our properties to be given a wider and fresher audience. We have already received buyer enquiries via Property Place and as the product develops we can only see an increase in these enquiries. The model allows Sohail to keep the fee for agents down to a bare minimum, and for us the decision to sign up was pretty straight forward.”
