A family fun day – ‘In Support of Katie’ organised by Lisa O’Connor, has raised more than £8000 for various charities – Piam Brown Ward at Southampton General Hospital, Little Princess Trust, Ronald McDonald House and Teenage Cancer Trust.
Lisa, who works in our Lettings & Property Management department, decided to plan the fundraising event after receiving news earlier this year that the daughter of a close friend had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, known as Sarcoma.
She decided she wanted to do something special to show support to the family and took it upon herself to organise an action packed fun day all in aid of charity. More than 400 friends, adults and children attended the fundraising event, held at Cowplain Activity Centre in Waterlooville, on Sunday 26th February 2017.
Lisa had lined up attractions and entertainment for all the family: Waterlooville Fire Brigade were in attendance and showed off their fire engine, which was a hit for all the children, especially. Everyone was delighted to see the pink double decker Cancer Research bus brought along by Stagecoach Buses. Children enjoyed face-painting, hair spraying and a tuck shop. Everyone (including the mums and dads) enjoyed the tombola, sweet cart and cake stall!!
Some brave participants took part in daring (and eye-watering!) feats to raise funds on the day. One man raised a hair-raising £400 by having his legs waxed and Lisa’s dad was sponsored £100 to have his chest waxed.
Raffle tickets sales raised an impressive amount of money towards the grand total and all 55 raffle prizes were generously donated! Many handmade yellow cancer for children ribbons were sold, boosting funds even further.
Lisa would like to thank all the local businesses who made such an effort to attend. Carl Blake brought his burger van, Liz’s Delights provided popcorn and candyfloss and Tommie at Bounce Back generously supplied the very popular bouncy castle entertainment, free of charge.
The Jeffries team is delighted to add to Lisa’s grand total, which now has reached a very impressive £8100. Our congratulations go to Lisa for making the day such a success, raising so much money and for her fantastic organising skills!!!
